Liftoff

About a week ago, I heard on an NPR report a conversation with some African Americans about the upcoming election. One said he got a text from a friend that said:

Rosa sat so Martin could walk

Martin walked, so Obama could run

Obama's running so our children can fly

And Frank Paynter sums it up nicely:

"Historic? This beats the effing moon landing."

Listen to this (thanks to Madame Levy):

Let America be America Again, by Langston Hughes

Pretty sure the Rosa, Martin, Obama comment originated with Jay-Z. If you care...

Frank,

Thank you. Beautiful piece.

Bill,

I do care. I didn't know who Jay-Z was until just now. Rap and hip-hop are two genres I have not pursued. I did like that hip hop tribute to Obama I posted recently. I'm just sort of set in my ways musically -- jazz, folk, blues, rock with something to say.

The worm's about to turn for you, my friend: the artist is Spearhead (Michael Franti), the album is 'Home,' and he's a jazz/folk/blues inspired rapper with something good to say. Here's the playlist:

2. "Love Is Da Shit" (5:37)
3. "Piece O' Peace" (4:54)
4. "Positive" (4:29)
5. "Of Course You Can" (4:38)
6. "Hole In The Bucket" (5:22)
7. "Home" (1:42)
